【摘要】:Sward-typehardnessrockerinstrumentshavebeenusedbythecoatingsindustryformorethanahalfacenturyasanondestructivetestinstrumenttomeasurecureandultimatesurfacehardnessoforganiccoatings(seeRefs.(1)through(11)).Anacceptedstandardtestmethodfortheuseofsuchaninstrumentislongoverdue.InprevioustaskgroupworkdesignedtoestablishanASTMmethodformeasuringhardnessoforganiccoatingswithSward-typehardnessrockerinstruments,round-robintestresultscontinuallyshowedpoorinterlaboratoryreproducibility.Thislackofinterlaboratoryagreementcouldhaveresultedfromdimensionalvariationsamonginstruments,withthecontactrockerringsasthemostlikelyoffenderinthatregard.ThereareseveralproducersofSward-typehardnessrockersmakinginstrumentsthatdifferamongthemselvesinnetweightandringradius.Someofthemexceedthemeasurementsandnetweightcalledforinthistestmethod.Thistestmethod,however,isusefulwithinlaboratoriestoquicklyscreenandmeasurethesurfacehardnessofcandidatecoatings.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftherelativedegreeofsurfacehardnessoforganiccoatingsusingaspecificapparatuswidelyusedinthecoatingsindustry.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thistestmethoddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
